Regardless of the merits of this routine ? which I personally from an aesthetic sense, think is typically American all gusto strength display, overactivity and and no subtlety or tempo change ? RARARA! But if I was in that Audience, I would have taken a paddle to all those girls screaming and shouting in a competition at the top of their lungs like banshees. Do you have no manners or self restraint at all ? Is this what american values teach you to do when in a competition audience of any kind ? did you consider the people around you ? or were you blind to their views on your screaming? To be honest this sport is beginning to look like gymnastics floor work without the tumbling ? I truly appreciate the fitness of the individuals involved which is an achievement, but somehow it comes off as plastic and cheesy looking, health can be created by slow movement as well as fast movement take a look at tai-chi for instance, But I guess I’m not supposed to be looking at this sport video right ? because this scene seems like ‘child beauty pageants’ where the audience is totally composed of the competitors or the relations / hangers on ?

The 80’s were not an era limited to black and white, contrary perhaps to the understanding of some people under the age of 20 today ? :)m Makes you wonder whether its possible for ages to be become relatively more antiquated by retro marketing than the reality at the time ? will the eighties seem like the fifties to people in 2020 ? strange questions for us all, as the species of time travellers we all inevitably become ?

These photos just happen to be taken in Black and White, because the photographer beleived that was best effect for the style of photography he was conducting and also processing and printing yourself was more feasable in Black and White, unless you were the kind of photographic geek who could home process cibachrome ? few did that…

Also note the BBC’s fantastic policy of closing comments for an article before they open them ? ie having no comments at all ?

I would have commented : “Johnny Stilleto hmm the name sounds like a celeb scene snapper, is it for real ? 35mm and shot from the hip… no permision ? the camera shake in the lovers shot ? snapped as you went by ? I’m guessing photographing people from behind was a kind of signature, or is this just the selection the Beeb have made here ? obviously you get the destination or environment of the characters ? some car snapping involved here ? Im gonna have to have a look at the site I guess… ”
