The Schizophrenic Exclamatory mark

Thanks!

Does the above mean a good or a bad thing ?

why is it that exclamation marks are the most schizophrenic of marks in language ? I mean a simple ? does it have such a random possibility of emotional intent ?

This is why the oral tradition is better as you can often get a misinterpretation of emotion in static text, unless it is laid out clearly within the confines of a well structured narrative. I think the reason why the exclamation mark has become so schizophrenic, is because, like the swear words which we now pepper oral culture that have done much to damage the interpretation of sentiment, they have become so commonplace theyre meaning and intention of use has degraded, but at least there is always intonation and tone in oral language to indicate the true sentiment of words.
