Having not voted over the last 17 eligible years !
Ive belatedly decided its time to get a little more politically active.
But Just exactly Who did i want to vote for out of this lot over the years ?
Thatcher ? No : Privatisation mad
Neil Kinnock ? No : Probably Union mad
John Major ? No : Not enough oomph to lift a country somewhere decent
Paddy Ashdown ? No : Not an interesting enough policy folio to be worthy of electing
William Hague ? No : Conservatives needed a rest to rethink theyre agenda
And then of course theyres him :
Tony Blair ? No way. : Mr grin like a cheshire cat in a suit spin merchant, might convince the feminine part of society but not I, more evil neocon monetarist than thatcher ever could have got away with, privatised more than thatcher, rode the labour party into power like a whore, and then debased all its values to the conservative way of thinking, leaving us with a one party two faction system, thanks for enriching the political system Tony! what a legacy ? And people talk about how labour have done well economically ?, the thing you need to understand with economics in the UK is: that were linked into the global economic cycle which recovered just before they came into power, I dread to imagine what blair’s government would have done, had kenneth clark in john majors government not handed them an economy almost fully recovered by the time of Tony’s election victory and has remained so since, and what have labour really acheived with the boom time economy theyve had the use of during the last 8 years ? Imagining tony blair’s government’s capability at dealing with hard economic times makes me shudder at how much worse things could be.
perhaps I should have voted for neil if he’d have promised to be real labour as in public projects NHS etc, and not union rhetoric obsessed.
This recent increase in my political blood pressure though reticent seems a necessity due to the state of english society, not that its a good time to do so, as the countrys in a real bloody mess, it might be easier to just hide from it all but anyway.
The state of Play of democracy :
We get a chance to vote for a different set of duffers once every four years, in my opinion this is not democracy ? especially in this day and age in which technology is so prevalent, democracy is in dire need need of re-invigorating as its on its last legs its been so debased. I think the general public is adult enough to start regularly voting electronically on more issues that effect them.
