Nike 10k charity RUN !!!!

Costs £30 to enter for the wembley nike 10k event ?! 10% of which goes to charity ie £3.00 !!!!!! more like a concert with a jog tacked on the side, screw that … get your mates to communally sponsor you £10 to run 10k and youll have done more for charity than entering that marketeers wet dream branding fiesta. Pay £30 to have nike merchandise branded all over your ass and have the Nike logo rubbed into your retina about 300 times over a 3 hour period.

And once the charity in question receives that £3.00 I wonder how much of the £3.00 is then spent on administering marketing and distributing the charitable funds before it reaches the people it’s supposed to help. Maybe 20% of the £3.00 ends up with at the sharp end doing some good ? 60p perhaps ? who knows ? sounds like a branding excercise to me, but then i suppose anything that gets people off their backsides to run 10k is worth something but really.

Its probably the cost of hiring wembley or something, what a disgusting stadium that is, the last time I went there it made me feel like we were living in a hyper commercialistic police state. All those abbatoir like gate styles, the bag searches by surly underpaid immigrant temp agency security staff, where it appears you almost have to go in naked to pass the security checks, no cameras, no bottled water, those anti terrorism laws have got well out of control in my opinion. And blind viewless turns up identical concrete stairs, hurded through food malls in which we queue to have our wallets fleeced and to pee in overcrowded urinals. People … in the commercial minds of these developers of such arenas, are just cattle to be herded in for fleecing and dumped out again. How tasteless and soulless and flat so much architecture seems to be. The only good thing in the new wembley is that the view from each seat is pretty darn good.

Other than that I think its pretty soulless place, concrete cold and unwelcoming, They should have stretched to building a tube/train stop underneath or something, the ridiculous stop go march from the current train station does nothing to enhance the experience of a visit. It has allot in common with a modern sewer, effective for things to flow through, but nothing to inspire along the way, (though I doubt modern sewers are being built with a mind to extra capacity in the future).
