This new disney Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe has been given the Disney treatment, and what a mess they made of it, again a complete lack of hollywood subtlety.
scene errata :
lucy enters the room mid a game of hide and seek, and ‘she slows down in some misplaced sense of awe at a sheet covered object ?’ unrealistic please ! first of all if you were rushing to hide you would not to slow down at an ordinary wardrobe which as yet has shown no magical qualties established, secondly the wardrobe is ridiculously overwrought and ornate, and carved, the whole point of this story is that it is an ordinary wardrobe ! and it is not described to closely on the basis that children can imagine it to be the wardrobe in their own house, ie the wardrobe is the symbol of a wardrobe rather than an explicit version in itself
The child acting in this film also generally apalling not one of them is endearing or appealing in nature, and they cant manage to behave like english children of that period, or close to the characters as written in the book
other flaws in the portrayal:
edmunds coat being a ladys fur coat ?
cockney beavers ? though she beavers accent was fine.
(dawn french did a good job there)
Mr beavers accent and dialog was ridiculous.
the wolf guard accent was just about bearable.
wolf platoon attacking the beavers damn scene
the licence with changing the story at every turn to make a more hollywood story, always over the top drama etc. and kind of toughened sense as though it wished to compete with in some sense lord of the rings.
fox and the children up tree scene.
father christmas portrayal wasnt quite right.
its not the like the book has no plot detailing although the dialog would need to be filled out, i think they tried to raise the age range of the film version by putting more danger adventure type scenes that dont exist in the film, waterfall breaking scenes etc, looks like extra stuff so that they can create games scenes that mirror the films, ie modifying the book to enhance merchandising opportunities.
so many flaws generally
all the bowing and scraping toward aslan at first meeting, aslan voice is just about bearable. but he looks too much like an ordinary lion, hes definately not large enough or broad enough, maybe narnia is something that should be fully animated rather than live action.
overall > Disney they naff storys up they do, they may not mean to but they do.
oh well an animated version may put the story right one day, when someone decides to follow the book more closely.
