My two Penneth worth on the iPhone 3G

Well yesterday ninth of June, Apple did what everyone was expecting and introduced the new 3G iPhone, the features are pretty much as expected.
obviously 3g means faster data capability, but they added aGPS (assisted GPs) capability, and they lowered the price by $200 or £99 here in the UK. They also demoed spatial tracking of your friends nearby, things are heading in the right direction but evolution is slow.

Questions feel free to comment :

1. Apple dance around the idea of open source, But will they actually get with the program and really open up, theyre platform the iphone ? I’m guessing not as there is quite a lot of money to be made, it will be interesting to see how the appstore grows the platform, considering currently you have two brick your phone i.e. break it in order to load most of the interesting software. Apple as most developers are still keen on the idea, that they are the gatekeeper to their platform.

2. Obviously the software that will be most difficult for Apple to approve of through their AppStore, will be voice over IP programmes, as this defeats the money model, the mobile network providers wish to pursue, i.e. the extra revenue they might get from mobile calls will be diminished by successful voice over IP software on mobile platforms.

3. Now that the iPhone is going to come down to just £99 , my prediction is that the the minimum rate of monthly subscription will go up from £35, Or contract lengths will be extended, succesfull VoIP software on the phone is partially negated from a revenue loss point of view by the mobile network operators, by higher minimum monthly subscription rates, in comparison to other phones.
