iphone 4 sony ericsson mw600 bluetooth issues : solution

view the video above to see a good review of the headset which is the best ive used with an iphone 4 though even this has some foibles, but the review above gives some good instruction on use. if you have issues with iphone 4 and a sony ericsson mw600 bluetooth headset involving either the voice control working or ipod controls working but not both : follow these instructions.

on the iphone 4:
goto settings > general > bluetooth >
click the right arrow “>” next to the mw600 and then select forget this device.

on the sony ericson mw600 hold down the power button till the device powers off then hold down the power button once it is off to turn the device back on but hold it down until it goes into pairing mode, spinning arrow.

then on the iphone 4 go back to settings > general > bluetooth >

and click the mw600 in the list which should be visible to connect to it with bluetooth, the device should auto pair successfully.

now test and press the call button on the mw600 to activate voice control on the phone check that it works properly by attempting to dial a number with voice control wait for the bleep to sound to tell you to speak and that you can see the waveform react to your voice as you speak, then dial the number.

Now heres the kicker if voice control works fine, but the playback controls on the mw600 dont appear to be controlling the ipod function of the iphone ? then >

Go to the ipod on the iphone4 select a track and start it playing from the iphone, now you will find that the playback controls on the mw600 should start working again from this point onward, as usual. why this works in helping to kick start the playback, I dont know but this worked for me.

hope this helps someone ?

UPDATE 6th MARCH 2012

the MW600 seems on iOS 5 to work a bit cleaner than it used to/less issues.
I think apple have updated bluetooth standards compatibility, for instance I now get track playback information showing up etc, which I didnt used to.
I wish they put a double sized battery in this thing though, as it only really last 3-4 hours playback on a trot now. without needing a charge.
this is of course based on buying a new headset and not an unknown quantity second hand one of ebay.

Im sure there must be better bluetooth stereo headsets by now on the market anyway have any recommendations for music stereo bluetooth headsets ?

  1. Thank you so much. I have scoured the web trying to figure out how to pair my headset with my iphone. You keep holding the power button down. That’s what it takes. Thanks so much

  2. thanks for info im on 5.0.1 and its still working so ill probably stay there ? anyone using 5.1.1 and theri headset fine ? but the evidence im getting from 5.1.1 is that its a pretty rubbish update what with the call quality issues some experience, but again apple are silent on such things and just dont communicate, use forums to ignore us with, and expect us to deal with whatever degredation quality wise occurs because of an update ? that they decide to dish out … auto update is sometimes auto obsolence.

  3. I’ve and 4S with te IOS 5.0.1 works fine (music, title of sounds, hands free..)

and when i upgrade to 5.1.1 only works like hands free :(

  4. I just bought MW600 to pair my I phone 4, but doesn’t work properly, problem is that Bluetooth connection is shown very good in between phone and MW600, but u can not hear anything , most of time hammed, need to pair again.
Anyway I strongly recommend that do not buy Sony Ericsson bluetooth product MW 600 for I
    phone apple product.

  5. Hiya,
The player controllers worked well for a month and (i am using iphone 4)then it stopped wokring so I had to manually skip the songs. Later on it stopped connecting to the ipod (iphone 4), but the bluetooth was connected to the phone though(could make calls). I tried resetting and repairing but never worked. After I switched off/on my phone and repaired it, the controllers works good now. I still have problems if the phone is in my pocket and i am moving the voice breaks quite a lot. I think if there is more movement the breaks. Also I clip the device to my shirt towards my belly to get more reception. The battery backup was good for a month now its going out of charge really quick. The charge dont seem to last even for 5 hours. Looks like a battery problem.

  6. avi the best approach is too look for a different bluetooth headset that works better with the iphone, the mw600 is ok at the most, works half the time and the other half the iphone bluetooth needs turning off and on to recognise the mw600 properly

  7. Hi, I have an compatabilty issue of Sony mw600 with iPhone 4 like range is hardly 2-3feet n sometime while receiving a call but major is range sometime I can’t talk however phone is in pocket, pLZ help me out for this.
    Thx
    Avi

  8. basically bluetooth is a hammed standard, one day technology is going to work seamless but currently bluetooth headsets are pretty flakey.
