i love the way he refuses to dumb down his vocabulary, I agree … screw the illiterate, you cant learn new words unless someone is shouting them at you from the front of a classroom, and you have a marginal fear driving you to an increased vocabulary.

I learnt condign :) … go dig out the definition lazy

His sophisticated rants would fly high above and appear so abstruse to the subjects he targets, that he could probably let rip in their presence and they would still feel a great deal of uncertainty, about interpreting his meaning.

long may he haunt our screens with documentarys only a minority of the population will enjoy.

Proof that humour is more potent than almost anything, and that the fact he is considered a rare national treasure, is all the evidence that you need, if any were needed, that english culture appears to be an exotic antique left out on the street to rot, surrounded by a mainly foreign audience that perceives it as perverse, quaint and mildly humourous and in some way silly culture which is redundant in this age.

Amusing poetry book worth a read.

A few too many hemingway kissass mythologising stories, I cant stand it when authors have pet idolisations they cant help expound or promote. Or did he recently read a biography perhaps, and just cant help slipping it in.
