We all know the iphone 4 aerial issue is a real design flaw, something that would normally warrant a recall ?

whats the minimum Apple should do ?

Offer all of the 1.7 million iphone 4 users a free bumper or case delivered free of charge, or $20.00 towards a case of their choice on the apple store, that is the absolute minimum, at the moment they charge theyre customers for their bumpers to fix this ? apples users might as well pay to be ravaged, their evangilism for apple appears absurd, to any mature human organism.

$20 x 1.7 million = 34 millions dollars maximum to solve the issue, for apple thats a drop in the ocean, they have a cash war chest to cover rubbish like this in the 20 billion region. And its only steves arrogance that has prevented him from seeing this as the real issue it is, you cannot sensibly ask your customers to hold your phone a certain way for it to work !

Steve man up and do the right thing, youve already caused allot of damage to your market perception with delay and denial. Not that I dont know the dark secrets of many other previous design flaws youve got away with because people are to slow and thick to assert their rights.

like :
Lombard laptops with motorola G3 CPU’s unable to run macos x
Lombard laptops modem sound issue, patched away.
No cable strain relief on the transparent wired Apple pro mouse, very high failure rate.
solder issues on power chips on white G3 ibook motherboards
failure rate of G3/G4 ibooks in general abnormally high, to the extent of some users having them replaced once a year over a three year warranty period.
Graphics chip failures on some ibook G4′s due to overheating and bad nvidia chips.
the nipple scrollwheel dying very quickly on the mighty mouse. solution was a wierd cleaning regime.
27 inch imac intial release high failure rate and big issues with screens
Sudden power supply fan noise and death on some mirror door mac towers, and G5 mac pros.

Well I can barely remember them all theyre have been so many things Apple has got away with not recalling, by not anouncing the issues and dealing with those who complain quietly on an individual basis or not making much fanfare or apology, until the disquiet has faded with time enduced apathy.

Apple isn’t better quality for its higher price than any other manufacturer, go view a genius bar anywhere in the country for an hour, to see the quantity of returns, and you will realise they are just as badly built design wise and flawed quality wise.

Yes it is damn well needed, blizzard as per usual ignoring their customers generating more samey, mess around with existing environments content > catacysm, rather than add a feature weve been seeking for years > “region transfer” havent played for three years as my level 70 is trapped : US side and no region transfer to eu yet available, do blizzard care ? > not a jot . theyve had six years to make such a feature and havent bothered, the classic scenario theyre working on is if you ignore descent it eventually fades through lack of fosterance from its own will. most of those who are trapped region wise have just stopped playing hence how blizzard can ignore those users. after all theres an endless generated global population of teenagers to fill the ranks of the descenters views. from a money corporacy perspective they are in the fortunate position still perhaps only just to be able to ignore their customers and still grow richer.

Their apparently seperate financial entitys (as if the customer cares what their relationship is ?) that dont talk to each other lord knows why, and they say its so difficult to do. In my reckoning if I can email an attatchment to the states, why the hell they cant send my character file between us and eu regions ive no idea, digital data is the most portable thing on earth, its in its genes to be moved from one place to another, the idea they cant manage this is ridiculous, I whole heartedly support this forum post. I ended up with a US char because the initial trial was only available in the US originally.

And I will not start a char again as mine has allot more than 100 days actual playtime invested, which blizzard thinks nothing of. Because they dont truly understand the concept of character investment, though they think they do. If I invested that time in doing something in real life or earning money lord knows what value of that time might be, but blizzard think such playtime is their input and property hence the agreement which basically says your chracter is their property. I will never knowingly ever play any MMO ever again because of these badly weighted licence agreements until there is an open platform file format and standard for online mmo characters, so that time invested in such games is not wimfully wasted by a corporate whos love of itself and self glorification seems to know no bounds, anybody fancing paying $500 dollars to dine with microsoft employees before going to a computer fair ? lol : aparrently blizzard thinks everything they do smells so sweet, pity they only asked their own opinion, and if they can stonewall, silence, outmarket and censor all descent, then such descent doesnt actually exist ?

The idea blizzard listens to its customers is farcical. I’m also tempted to pay $500 to go to their suck ups dinner, so they can meet a real customer with real views, and why theyre geting it so wrong. Oh but i forgot you cant just pay $500 you have to be so lucky as to be drawn in a lottery for the privilege of being able to pay $500, my bad, and perhaps youd like to pay for all the overmerchandised franchised rubbish they market at you while your at it, apart from the game itself every day of the flippin week we have pushed in our faces, comics, miniatures, fanzines, card games jeesh do they have no humility ? theyre marketing machine is and endless behemoth its like some nasty microsoft acolyte rubbish, everytime they make an announcement its like the “dance monkeyboy dance” video , with same braying game drugees, whooping theyre way more deeply into virtual acheivement lives, with every word the blizz corporate crew spew. Also raiding times are completely incompatible when your on the wrong region which makes high end play impossible, and lag times in tournaments also a problem.

Oh and you cant post on warcraft forums unless you have an active subscription ? ie anyone they kick out or isnt paying money regardless of whether they have previously for years is not entitled to criticise or have an opinion they are effectively instantly censored ! wow blizz are so not interested in customer feedback, blizzard are a horrible corporate.

INJUSTICE

Abni Nur

asylum seeker stats top trumps stats
children : 7 !
wife : 1
Cost to the taxpayer : £2000 a week in housing alone ?

Basically this government is telling foreign people, that by the demonstratable action of granting people, such as Abni Nur rights to live this country, and giving them such inappropriate benefits, that if you turn up here with a wife who youve stuffed your seed into excessively enough times, so shes has lots of children swinging of her tits, and you come from a country in which their has been war at some point, and if you lie and say that if you are returned you will die.

Then

You and your wife and the progeny of your dick, will all be paid for to live in one of the most expensive areas of london for free, like you are some kind of immigration millionaire ? at the expense of taxpayers who may not even be able to afford their own home.

So do you think this will encourage or discourage immigration long term ? whats the message thats being sent by these actions ? think about it.

I think all it does encourage others to try the same.

And no doubt some middle class people will say its not Abni’s fault, its the systems ? truth it is mainly that the system is to soft, But Abni Nur decided to come here, precisely because he knew he could abuse this system to make this possible for himself, he is not innocent in any sense, he did like any organism, for his own self benefit, there is a selfishness in his actions, as far as I’m concerned this guy is asking for trouble, does he not realise how injust it would be, If I went to somalia with a wife and an excessive number of children and expected the somali taxpayer to support me and all my family in luxury housing in the best area for the rest of my life ? He is inviting the wrath of the general poor who do not claim benefits in this country, and work to pay for their themselves and keep their heads above water.

Truthfully the guy should be sent back unless he can now support his own children and even then, I think hes nothing more than an international con artist using his dick as a to generate the currency of children, which he then uses as a blackmail tool, to abuse this countrys systems.

Was once a bus conducter, probably just enough time in order to complys with the systems necessitys of proving income to support family or becoming a keyworker or something crass to better abuse the systems weakness, until he felt secure enough in his situation to stop working.

Mr Nur said he found the property with the help of a friend, what him and the landlord are in cahoots ? or that the masonistic attitudes of any minority mean they advise and help each other rape the system for all they can get ?

It annoys me also I when I hear, how people who own multiple propertys and rent them out, that if they couldn’t rent out some of there spare property, they could always rent it to the DSS, that whole idea of landlords in cahoots with the councils to rent for this immigrant housing thing is designed to benefit landlords, with free maintenance of the property etc, its all disgusting and perversely setup as per usual to benefit foreign minoritys.

I am so very tired of these same storys that reoccur again and again UK wide, this story is the exact evidence as to why comfortable well off hyper middle class posh with radically extreme over the top politically correct people, to the point of damaging this country, should not be running government or councils, because they are weak enough to allow abuses like this to occur !

anyone got the link to the iphone 4g keynote video (comment back), with the stuffup or has it been pulled to protect the overly precious about itself image of apple, by getting rid of an onstage fluff by pulling the video, they’ll use that fluff to make a wifi blackout at newer keynotes be sure, theyll probably start confiscating peoples tech or something before steve gets on stage.

What we do have access to video wise ? is a fucking advert on the apple site (obviously thats a unintentional metaphorical karmic joke representative of apple itself) A new advert has been released we can all lapup like the shmucks we are, with ives and steve and the crew all cooing into cameras and calling it another fucking … “revolution”, i’m begining to get serious marketing fatigue from this shit, god these fuckers need some fucking humilty and a lack of ego for gods sake, or theyll stop fitting through doors, the iphone needs some promotion with a small p and for the rest, it can sell itself, but the marketing onslaught ? which is Steve’s true skill is relentless, it makes me sick. Jonathan Ives in particular, being once upon a time a British person, should show some evidence of reserve in his character, but all he can do is blow Apple corporate cock, because his apples shares value must keep growing and giving him a corporate erection. Soon theyll be dancing onto stage like Balmer in “dance monkey boy dance”, because they know that an incremental upward tick in share value means they can all buy a new prius
for theyre dog or some such tech mad rich guru guff. Oh to have a british technology company to show how you could create products without all this endless egotistically framed self congratulation talk. Even the audience don’t necessarily whoop on cue in the keynotes any longer to every point, much no doubt to Steve’s chagrin.

Geesh theyve made the phone better, its not a damn revolution all over again, that word was bandied about too much in particular, at this rate we are going to end up in a technology mono-corporacy owned by one really up itself company, luckily the htc evo is an just about an alternative … if we can get some serious open source development weight behind it. otherwise theyre going to turn the future of mobile technology, into a personal cash cow home run, on theyre closed money making platform, and the espousement with which steve lauded on about iAds aiming for emotion and interection(mispelt subconscious invention I left in lol) or some such guff ? god theyre bloody adverts mate its not a huge selling point, and all of this leading to a more crooked neck existence, as the future of humanity is doomed to peer into tiny bloody devices and become myopic little tech cattle, its not really a revolutionary solution to the problem of HCI.

We need consolidation in the tech market, to go up against them, maybe a microsoft / sony / intel / nvidia / wacom merger might do it, unlikely as hell, what the other tech players dont realise is, if they dont consolidate and pull together to generate a fully competetive and complete software / middleware / hardware / os solution to the problem theyre going to lose against apples insane marketing momentum, finally the technologically illiterate have bit the corporate apple, and theyre going to keep blowing wind in apples sails for the next ten years at this rate … trust me, because they dont understand locked platforms, they just see surface glossiness and they like it, and havent yet looked beyond to see the captive market and locked platform theyre aiding, everything apple invents seems to be geared toward an ever increasing revenue stream, as evidence by their endless promotion of how much theyve sold, they dont leave it for the accounts, no they like too shout it in your ear and from the rooftops to anyone who’ll listen weve sold x million this, x million that, arent we wonderful, as though lifes prime objective is just to sell more shit, and that what this platform is going to turn into, a cash register.

if they call the fucker iphone HD theyre lying, the display is only 480p capable, thats what standards are for … 720p ? close but no cigar im afraid, HTC evo does 1080p playback, outputted via mini HDMI. and you dont have to spend 15,000 hours transcoding your videos to work on the device, or laboourious hours to get the video onto the device in the first place. Ok well now i can video edit on my iphone in 720p ? even though it can’t display 720p, lets hope that chaps eye lens and ccd combo dont mean the 720p tag the video is entitled too isnt overcompressed sludge, with an effective spatial resolution of much less say 480p upscaled. impressive didnt ask for it, and more likely to do it on a bigger screen but hey im not gonna complain, if I can knock a pretty youtube series out whilst travelling, heck it might catch on.

retinal display hmm more spurious marketing terms invented there, ok its a better display … that … just like the ipad doesnt display a full 720p frame format, its IPS and led back lit … ok combo points there, but better than oled ? I need a comparison I think. is the dpi in any way a res equal to that of the eye ? NO : the infocus part of the fovea has a resolution of around 6000 x 6000 points in an area much smaller than a square inch. so retinal is just marketing guff. and it will upscale os drawn gadgetry in current iphone apps to make em look good jus like de cameraless ipad, what your saying is some aspects of resolution independent interface layer save your bacon, but where is user control over resolution independence i was promised in mac os x 2 revisions ago, oh shit youve completely dropped the ball on that front, desktop os is now the proverbial cold potato in Apple imagination, cheers. Youve gone half the way in the resolution independent stakes, now drop your shy drawers and dive right in.

more case improvement, hmm as far as im concerned if you improve and simplify your manufacture process thats your business, if that makes it more resilient and reliable with a refraction barrier free interface between screen and glass all the better, if others arent already doing this ?

custom silicon ? if by that you you mean an instruction set optimised for iphone version of an arm chip, you’ve licensed to fabricate … true. smaller die this time ? nice work, points all round Mr Jobs.

new spatial sensor setup, great work there, this is the kind of work that most other tech companys would fail to do right, your attention to detail between software and hardware is whats kicking all the other tech companys arses out there.

and with iphone os4 multitasking all round going to be a boon, but about time really, and yes points again youve probably implemeted that software hardware middelware interface aspect better than anyone on the basis you control the whole middleware ring of power thing.

but allot of the stuff … folder organisational tweaks to phone gui, good but really thats heading down a road of trying to reinvent the wheel of gui complexity featuritis solutions, we reached in desktops with 3rd party apps to solve the fundamental problems with wimps and desktops. It still a wimp on a screen you cant escape these issues down this road, only an Augmented reality spatial HCI will ever escape the confines of a screen based GUI, google understand this ahead of you. Though your hiring of a wearable computing technology specialist, indicate you do too … except that it will probably be in iphone v8 right ? when all this prime technology your pushing today is in the f’ing landfill.

sorry for the sailory sweariness, but passion is passion.

ok i followed some info from this page to add sort by size functionality to mac os x’s find / search funtion, so all credit to their respective authors as mentioned on the above page, what i have attempted to do on this post is to add the extra information to make the procedure foolproof from my experiencing of doing it. if you follow this information i will not in any way be held responsible if you naff this procedure up.

1: open a new finder window in list mode
2: go to the view menu and select “Show view options”
3: tick an unticked custom column to be shown “version will do”
4: close the window, the reason we did this was to guaranteably create if it wasnt already created a com.apple.finder.plist preference file in your currently logged in users folder ie ~/library/preferences/ folder as by default that file may not necessarily exist, which was the case in my case.

5: now we will follow the guide as shown on the page linked above, which i will quote wholesale from the mac os x hints post itself below rather than crazily re-write quality instructions many thanks to vl_tone
————-
“I was very disappointed that I couldn’t add the Size column to the list view in search results in Snow Leopard like you could do in Tiger, since Apple gave us the impression that Spotlight would include additional ways to sort results in Snow Leopard. Only Date Created and Date Modified were added as options in 10.6; the others are grayed out.

Fortunately, I found a way to force the Size column to appear, as well as Comments, Version and Label columns. You’ll have to edit the com.apple.finder.plist file found in ~/Library/Preferences, using the Property List Editor app (included with Xcode) or PlistEdit Pro.

Open the Root node, then navigate down into SearchViewSettings » ListViewSettings » columns. Then choose the column you want to activate in the column list (ie. Size), and set the visible key to yes. Save the .plist and relaunch the Finder (Option-Control-click on the Finder icon in the Dock).

Note: you must have done at least one search, and selected one of the additional columns in the View Options panel for the search results (Date Created, for example), or else your .plist file may not contain the SearchViewSettings node.

Warning: Apple probably disabled these columns for a good reason, as there may be some bugs that could cause problems on your system. I didn’t have any problems with the size column, but be warned.

[robg adds: I have no idea why it's taken over three years (and counting) to fix something that worked in 10.4. Until Apple gets it fixed, though, this seems to do the trick. I tested it on my MacBook Pro, and haven't had any problems as of yet. Note that you won't be able to actively enable/disable the columns in the View Options dialog, but all the columns you set to yes will show in your search results -- and once they're showing, you can sort as expected by simply clicking a column heading.]”
——————
once you have done this it should have done the trick if not follow point 6 :

6: ok once you have done this, the sort by size column should already now be visible, if the by size column is not yet visible in search then as overkill, run the script below also taken wholesale from the same post, credit for this goes to the brain power of tedw as this also modifies the value for size in the same plist file and restarts the finder to boot to guarantee the change is visible without restarting the computer. you in fact could probably get away with skipping step 5 completely and just running this script from step 6, but I did all these steps and it worked for me first time, steps 1-4 for me were as essential as initially the the plist file itself didnt exist in that location, and where it did exist it didnt contain the right modifiable property values.
tedw wrote > ——————-
“Just to help people out, here’s a script that adds the size column to Finder searches.

tell application "Finder" to quit
tell application "System Events"
set theFinderPrefsFile to POSIX path of (file "com.apple.finder.plist" of preferences folder of user domain)
set theFinderPlist to property list file theFinderPrefsFile
	tell theFinderPlist
 tell property list item "SearchViewSettings"
 tell property list item "ListViewSettings"
 tell property list item "columns"
 tell property list item "size"
set value of property list item "visible" to true
 end tell
 end tell
 end tell
 end tell
	end tell
end tell
delay 3 -- just to make sure the plist file is written to disk
tell application "Finder" to launch

To remove the size search, set visible to false instead of true in the above. My concern with this is that it would force the system to calculate file sizes at search time, which might slow down searches some and increase processor activity. Has anyone noticed that kind of effect? P.s – to use this, open the Applescript Editor in the Utilities folder, copy this script into it, and click Run.”
——————–
postscript :

Now obviously all this gubbins above may seem a dire endightment of an now largely abandoned operating system from a bug fix perspective, but sadly if you want sort by size functionality on searches in snow leopard it is the only way. and thanks to macosxhints website for providing the forum for users to resolve such stuff amongst themselves.

The European Union is demonstrative in its pursuit of destroying national identity & democracy, if any proof were needed political decisions are no longer made through UK politics, now we are told by the EU what are responsibilities and liabilities are, as regards immigrants.

somali woman wins european ruling

A Somalian woman marries recently Danish Naturalised immigrant in ethiopia, they then use his EU status citizenship to move to the UK, where he works for 5 months and then starts claiming incapacity benefit, when his incapacity benefit is stopped, he then moves to denmark leaving his wife and children in the UK who then claim benefits, harrow council attempt to prevent the woman from claiming a house for her three children and living off benefits and using the school system here.

She then takes her case to the european court of human rights and gets a ruling whereby harrow council have to provide the full works for her and her children, House, Benefits, healthcare because her kids are in school in the UK . And she now says she is looking forward to being housed in a bigger house by harrow council, who will no doubt have to spend thousands and thousands to rent her a property from the multiple house owning landlords operating in the private sector. And this will set a budget draining precedent for councils accross the country. This must end end, as it is an insult for those who save in vain to afford a family and home from the standpoint of an english moral perspective that prevents them from using the benefits system, why should anyone of a moral bent bother , when all this can be stolen from the poor taxpayer.

Is this somalian woman morally justified in her use of this system ? though morals I doubt seem such a great issue when you come from the kind of poverty to be found in somalia, but to be honest poverty should not be used as an excuse for immorality, as giving succour to somalian pirates has proven.

This case proves that an out of EU immigrant, only needs to temporarily marry, a recently naturalised EU immigrant, to provide them with full rights to the benefits available to a UK citizen.

Yet how can the EU rule in this manner, when a UK citizen living in france cant claim full rights to say French Healthcare ?

This is an abuse of the benefits system without doubt ! which is now reinforced by a european ruling, our government and democracy will mean nothing, till it can stand up against rulings like this and choose which parts of european law to abide by.

We need to make a distinction about european citizens who have been recently naturalised. Or if not that, consider the speed and rapidity in which one citizenship is traded for another or systems abused to maximum selfish benefit by the recently naturalised.

May this country sink under the selfish weight of the vain media whoring fame seekers and high earning guardian reading slef obsessives, and the private sector government outsourcing commercialist internationalist cunts. Politics and the media in this country make me incandescant with rage. We are totally fucked for a culture if this is allowed to continue unchecked.

The european union is beneficial for rich business internationalists, and 2nd home owning self serving bastards, who believe in, and belong to no culture. And the BBC that have done nothing but endlessly foster and encourage foreigners and multiculturalism propaganda in the UK, and ram it down the poorers classes throat since the 60′s, when it is they and not the media set, who pay the price of this immigration in competition for all housing and services.

I admire Evan Davis’s attempt to raise this issue, as very few people in the media have even the balls to touch it, pity the whole program seemed to revolve about whether a certain class of english person is a worse or better surf, to the power mongering business owning classes than an east european. Culture is not purely measured in economic output, and if that is how, it is now purely measured then we are truly living in sad feudal times, in which, all are replaceable unless they comply submit and adhere to some purely economic formula. I would rather these jobs were automated completely, than we used them as an excuse to bring more and more foreign people to compete against and dilute an already fractured and underrepresented and disenfranchised part of our cultural population.

What is so often evil about this, is that the moderately intelligent, use programs like this, as an easy vehicle, to beat up on the lower classes, who’s ignorance is often a product of class division and lack of opportunity’s or education, similar in quality to those who berate them in the media.

The day the immigrants left, attempted to address this issue, but converted it into a reality show piss take of english workers inability to pick asparagus fast enough, or pack potato bags into palletes like a robot, or recognise the difference between twenty different types of curry, alongside workers who are not english, as though theres a presumption they should be happy for the same opportunities, and also be happy to work in a social culture in which they are surrounded by foreign people. when in fact society and culture and the media has tried to sell people disdain for these menial jobs over the last twenty years, when in fact it is mainly only these kind of dull pointless and listless jobs that seem to exist in culture generally.

One guy in the program was a landlord who owned over 100 propertys, and employed exclusively east europeans to maintain and increase his property empire, at no point was any mention made of the inequitys inherent in a culture, that has allowed this single man to attain so many houses and rent them out. The government has wished to increase the financial divide over the last twenty years and has succeeded agressively in doing it. when you have no stake in a society and see so slim an opportunity of acheiving it, it disheartens them to the extent they lose faith in their own culture and their place in it.

These devices provide good reasons, as to why ball grid array surface mounting graphics chips with early lead free solder, was a cheap … but very bad idea.

the majority of failure associated with these machines can be attributed to this design decision, graphics processors just like cpus get very hot, as such they need attatching to the graphics card in the same way as the cpu itself, ie into a slot onto the graphics board using pins on the graphics processor die itself, the same as a cpu would be, as this is the only way to reduce the failure rate of the bga sfm package design, in such intense thermal environments as current consoles and laptop motherboards, especially under the loads that these devices may find themselves, also I doubt the aging issues with thermal paste , is a an acceptable thermal contact design solution long term, under heavy load, for devices that are not designed to be user serviceable.

My brothers fatboy playstation 3 lifespan 2years 3 months.
not acceptable for any electronic product made with resources from earths limited supply.

Sonys solution :

£130.00 for someone elses refurbed fatboy ps3 with a 3 month warranty > wow thats faith in your own manufacturing an refurbing skills 3 months for £120.00 ! so a ps3 is so reliable that sony themselves will only guarantee its functioning, if you pay the equivalent of £40.00 monthly.

PS3 slims are no doubt much more reliable as the nanometer design of the chips has been reduced, thereby scaling down temperature based failures also.

Also cooling within such designs should be about being thoroughly effective in the worse load/use scenario, ie running 24/7 not presuming 4 hours use per day, or some other subjective presumption.

This guys understands that were making the whole economic system mean nothing, by not letting people suffer the consequences of illegally sold mortgages, for both the banks who lent insanely, and the people who took out the mortgages irresponsibly, this bailout idea does nothing but sustain the zombie economy, its a zombie economy in the sense that the numbers dont add up, but we still we insist on sustaining the illusion that they do, because were just to weak to manup to the hangover required, and get back to solid fiscal ground, where monetary value actually means something.

though the traders in this video might well be overpaid jerks no doubt, whove caused the moral decay in the first place ? this guy obviously thinks the winners bare no responsibility, when its the so called winners greed, that steals the losers crust. The problem in western culture is it has done nothing but assert greed and might is right, and propogandised that belief into its populace.

Although lets be honest about this the government makes us pay the banks out of their trouble with tax revenue, and then immdiately starts trimming the budget anyway it can to pay for the bailout, thereby whos paying for this bailout the rich ? nope the poor in the further decline of their servcies healthcare etc to raise revenues in the budget to bail the banks.

It doesnt add up whichever way you look at it, the people who can least afford to pay are the ones coughing up for those who have the money, its feudal in nature.
