why does apple try to patent stuff that other people have blatently demonstrated in the public domain, the US patenting system seems to benefit a few patent lawyer heavy rich tech corporations in the US. Apples latest patent related to 3D displays has quite obviously been demonstrated allot of times on youtube videos by many people, and these apple bozos think they have the right to come along and assume ownership of it, patents in the IT / technology arena at the moment is slowing down rather than speeding up human progress. It would be better to let everyone have a patent amnesty, and see how fast technological evolution runs when the way, you make money from something is not having a patent on a technology, but seeing how quick you can get it to market, and make the money first out of a well implemented version of said technological idea. Also patent should only be awarded for ideas where no prior version of the idea has been distributed publicly but without being patented. In other words if its in the public domain already, then tough tit, its a public idea, full stop, ie you can see something on the web that isn’t patented and then come along and just patent it.
heres chung lee of carnegie mellons university version of it :
but head tracking has been going on along time before now. This kind of stuff does not need patenting by apple.
